AMATYC New and Notes

The 1996 AMATYC Conference will be held November 14-17 at the Hyatt Regency and ITT Sheraton Hotels in Long Beach, CA. Long Beach has the advantages of a major city along with the beauty of an oceanfront setting.

The theme of the conference is riding on the Waves of Change. The AMATYC Standards provide the framework for the changes needed to ensure student success in the next century.

Keynote speakers are Glenda Lappan of Michigan State University and Wade Ellis, Jr. of West Valley Community College in Saratoga, CA. Professor Lappan was instrumental in the formation of the NCTM Curriculum and Evaluation Standards as well as the NCTM Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics. She has served on the NCTM Board of Directors from 1989 to 1992. Professor Ellis has been a leader in the introduction of technology into the mathematics curriculum and is a Second Vice-President of the Mathematical Association of America. He is also a leading proponent of calculus reform.
