President's Message

The 1996 IMACC Conference entitled THE MAGIC OF TEACHING will have some new features while hopefully retaining much of the magic which has endeared Allerton to all of us. The conference will actually start Thursday afternoon for those who phone in their reservations for these sessions at Parkland College. It is important to phone in your reservation for the Thursday sessions as soon as possible since each of these sessions will be limited to the first few requests.

On Thursday evening the conference will shift to Allerton house for check-in and a social hour. The Friday meetings will include general sessions by the entertaining Joseph Gallian of The University of Minnesota and Tony Peressini of the University of Illinois. There will also be several concurrent sessions including an overview of the TI-92 by Phil DeMarois of Harper College. Friday evening will feature a magic show by Don Oltz, President of the Society of American Magicians.

Saturday morning will be highlighted by a talk on the mathematics of juggling by William Thayer of St. Louis Community College. Even with all the concurrent sessions the schedule has still been designed to include some free time for conversations. We hope you will enjoy the program and encourage your colleagues to join us. We especially want to encourage new faculty members to join us.

You will find a complete list of the times and activities of the conference starting on page 7 of the ConneXion. Please help the conference coordinator Lisa Carrington by registering soon.

In addition to planning the conference, the board and committees of IMACC have also been busy with the new IMACC home page (address http://www.richland.cc.il.us/

imacc), the new IMACC archives at Parkland College and other initiatives.

I am truly honored to have served as your president for the past year and to have received your enthusiastic support.

I look forward to seeing you at the conference.

James W. Hall, President
