We continue a new feature called the President's Problems. If you wish, you may send proposed solutions to Jim Hall at Parkland. His address is in the mailing list earlier in this issue. (Extra Credit: submit solutions by e-mail using an attached file).

1. Use the SIMULT key on a TI-85 Graphics Calculator to solve the linear system below:

x + 2y + 3z = 20

2x + 3y + 4z = 29

3x + 4y + 5z = 38

Is this solution correct? Explain.

2. Use a calculator to evaluate each of the following:

a) 24 6(5 - 3)

b) 24 6(5 - 3)

3. Simplify the following:

a) log ab - log bc + log cd - log de + ... - log xy + log yz

b) {a^2} over {bc}~+~{b^2} over {ac}~+~{c^2} over {ab} if a + b + c = 0 and abc 0.
