IMACC News and Notes from the Membership
Caroline Goodman, formerly at Parkland College is now a full-time faculty member at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). She started as a part-time instructor in January of 1995. Caroline informs us that the NIACC mathematics department will host a three day shortcourse in hand-held technology from August 20-22, 1997. Call 1-888-GO NIACC for more information.
Jerry Becker of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale has been appointed to the International Program Committee (IPC) for the ninth International Congress on Mathematics Education (ICME-9) in Japan during July and August of the year 2000.
Elaine Pavelka retired from Morton College in June 1996 after forty years of teaching collegiate mathematics. Her career accomplishments include presentating a paper at the Third International Congress on Mathematics Education (ICME-3) in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Ken Urban is a new faculty member teaching computer science at Parkland College. Ken received a bachelors degree in computer science from the State University of New York in Albany and a Masters degree in the same area from the College of William and Mary.
Bob Rubel of Parkland College will retire after this semester. Bob has been a mathematics faculty member at Parkland since 1972.
Vern McFadden informs us that Parkland College is hiring two new faculty, one in mathematics and one in computer science.
Rikki Blair, Midwest Vice-President of AMATYC, informs us that her school, Lakeland College in Ohio is hiring a new mathematics faculty member.
